Why PayPal Coupon codes are so hard to find
26 January 2007When you shop at nearly any online retail outlet, it is beneficial to do a quick search for any coupons before you finish paying for your items. I’ve used it multiple times to save a quick 10% or take a quick $5 of my $25 purchase. It’s downright easy to find coupon codes for most of the sites. Sites like Amazon, Best Buy, Half.com, and services like Sharebuilder all have coupon codes that are easily found through a quick search.
So, if it is so easy to find a coupon code for most sites, why is it so hard to find coupon codes for eBay and PayPal? By design of course. eBay and PayPal realize of course that they don’t make money off of those coupon codes. Especially when the bulk of their money comes from either a final value fee or in the case of PayPal a percentage of the total transaction.
eBay and PayPal do their coupon codes a little differently than most retailers. Instead of making a few coupons available to a bunch of people, they give a limited amount out to some of their better customers and make them individualized so that they are unsharable with the masses. Is it smarter for them to do this? Well, Yes and no.
It is smarter because they save money by not having a widely available PayPal coupon out there that any user can search for and use. They also keep their main customer base happy by giving them exclusive coupons.
It isn’t smart, because the rest of us are continually trying to find the best deal and may end up at another site if we can’t find a good coupon. The limited amount of coupon codes makes it seem like they never give out a new one. And in fact they seldom do. And many of those that are available don’t always work.

I never buy without coupon codes – Its simply throwing away money not using coupons !
