Topps’ Jeter/Bush/Mantle error card stirs collectors
12 March 2007Topps trading card company stopped the presses to fix it, but many escaped into the wild before they could. Someone digitally altered a Derek Jeter card to feature Mickey Mantle in the dugout and George Bush in the stands.
Of course, as you can probably imagine, these cards are fetching a premium on eBay. Many selling for around $25-$30 each. I’m not sure what a box of these cards runsA box at Walmart runs $9.97 if you can find any. If you pull two or three of these cards out, you will make your money back.
I haven’t collected sports cards for at least 10-15 years, but this card certainly gets the ol’ juices flowing to start back up.
UPDATE: I went to my local Walmart and bought what they had left. (7 boxes) I pulled one of the Jeter cards, But I got lucky and found a few others that might be worth something and should still make my money back on the deal.
