Streamline your Selling
26 October 2006Whether you sell on eBay, eBid, uBid, Yahoo Auctions, or any one of the other myriad auction sites you’ve got to streamline your business.
The more streamlined you become, the less time you spend on your business, the better. But where do you begin?
One of the quickest ways to streamline is to become as organized as possible. Organization goes beyond ordering your inventory(which you should). If you want to run a good business and not spend hours at tax time, organizing your business finances is very important. Print off your monthly invoices from your auction sites and your payment sites. Keep them somewhere safe and consider buying an accounting program like Microsoft Money or Quicken to keep each transaction in order. Doing so will save you hours each year in tax preparation time.
Along with organizing your business, you should eliminate as much wasted time as possible. Think seriously about using a mass lister if there is one available. This gives you the ability to create listings ahead of time and list them all at one time. Instead of having to sit for a few hours to get all your listings listed in one day, you can use a spare few minutes here or there to create the listings and merely post them when you want to.
Finally, as your business grows, you’ll find yourself spending more and more time responding to customers and potential customers with questions about your listings. There isn’t any easy way to completely eliminate these, but there are ways to reduce the total number of them. And it all starts with your listings. Make sure to be as descriptive as possible. Not just about your item, but your policies also. Clearly explain your payment and shipping options. State what forms of payment you will take and how often you ship.
Streamline your business practices and enjoy your business. The more it becomes like work and the more time it takes, the less enjoyable it will be. And remember that we’re all doing this because it’s enjoyable and better than working for someone.
