Stanford Students beat eBay/Mozilla to eBay toolbar

25 May 2007

eBay released their Firefox add-on in the U.K., France, and Germany. It’s still in Beta, and is still being tested before being released in the U.S. Too bad they weren’t the first to release an eBay toolbar for Firefox.

A group of design students at Stanford University have released an eBay toolbar for Firefox, myEBayFox, with some great bells and whistles. Besides basic search features, it removes external ads onthe site and allows users to see thumbnail pictures on ALL search items, even those sellers didn’t pay for.

That’s got to be embarrassing for eBay and their coders. A couple of college students coding in their spare time beat them to market with what could be a superior product. The only advantage the eBay toolbar has is an advanced security feature that guarantees that you’re on an eBay page instead of a Spoof page. The downside of the myeBayFox add-on is that it currently only works with the .com U.S. site and not for the international sites just yet. So, you can use the one for the U.S. site and the official one for international sites.

You can download the myeBayFox addon at myfriendlyfox.com/ebay/
