Cnet is reporting that Paypal is getting ready to offer a Password key fob to it’s users. The fob will have a rotating password that changes about every 30 seconds and will act as a third method of authentication for user logins.
The “PayPal Security Key” will cost $5 for personal PayPal accounts, but will be free for business accounts, Bettencourt said. PayPal has been testing the device with employees for a couple of months and plans to start trials with customers in the next month or so, she said. As of September 30, there were nearly 123 million PayPal accounts, eBay has said.
The fob could be a welcome addition to the already stiff anti-phishing/ID theft arsenal of Paypal. It will be available to users in the US, Australia and Germany at first with rollouts to other countries afterwards. There was no mention of when to expect to see a sign up become available.
