OUCH! eBay loses $938 Million in Q3
18 October 2007eBay announced their earnings yesterday and what a whammy that was. They lost $938 Million in the third quarter. That’s nearly a Billion dollars. Enough to cut the Federal Deficit by what? 1/80th?
Part of the loss is the markdown of Skype, but what about the other 40 Million? Could it be that the number of disgruntled users is still on the rise and it’s hitting them in the wallet? Maybe we’ll see some real improvements instead of more social additions. I don’t go to eBay to socialize. I go to buy and sell.
That being said, there is a pretty good potential for using those social apps for publicity for your auctions.

And Google made a billion for the quarter
The federal deficient is about $400 billion a year. The debt now stands over $9,000,000,000,000 or $516,348 Per Household. So Google’s quarterly profit could pay the current federal debt for under 2,000 households.

I think a lot of that loss can be attributed to the fact that more and more ebay users are becoming disgruntled by the fees. Not only the fees but also ebays growing inability to listen to it’s users.

Amen! Everyone’s trying to get in on the “Social Networking” craze. But honestly, some sites just need to retain their original functionality and build on it.
What a huge loss for such a big company. I’m surprised to hear it, considering the monstrous fees they charge me on a regular basis.
