lastminute auction

19 November 2006

Back in September I reviewed a site called Last Minute Auction Bargains.  Today, I got an email from ReviewMe to review a site called LastMinute Auction.  The names are extremely close, but they are not the same site.  What follows is a review of the latter of the two, which I am being paid to write.  It is however an honest review.

One of the hardest things to do as a buyer on eBay is to find the items you want in enough time to actually make a bid.  If you don’t get the search terms just right you get off in the completely wrong direction.  Even harder is finding a real bargain on the site that originally was known for good bargains.  Sites like LastMinute Auction make that task quite a bit easier.  If you’re looking for bargains, a quick search will show you all the results that end in the next hour and are currently priced at a buck or less.

Know of an item that is constantly being misspelled?  Try punching that in.  The one drawback to a site like this is that, often, people are looking for deals on high price items.  Many sellers just won’t list those items at a starting price of under $1 in the first place, so they won’t show up in the search.

Overall, if you’ve got the time to spend a little time wading through the junk, LastMinute Auction is a good site.  But the thing to remember is that, much like a garage sale, if you’re looking for bargains, you’ll have to sift through some junk to find the diamonds.  Where the site may come in extremely handy is if you have a specific niche (you should) that you sell/buy in.  Using that, you could bookmark a specific section/category and easily search that once or twice a day.  Maybe you find a diamond, maybe you don’t.  One thing is for sure, with a constantly rotating inventory of auctions ending in one hour or less, you could get addicted to looking for deals pretty easily.  Everything is new every hour after all.

One thing to remember is that any site like this has to make money.  In this sites case, the obvious money makers are the ads along the right hand side.  The not so obvious money maker is the eBay affiliate ID that is embedded in all the searches.  That really shouldn’t matter to you, but it’s actually a pretty good revenue model.

Give Lastminute auction a look, just be careful to not get addicted to checking it often.
