eBid: Rising star of eBay competitors
1 September 2006We’ve all heard of eBay. Some of us have heard of eBid. It’s an alternative auction site to eBay. And worth checking out. Set up much like eBay, but with much fewer fees and some other fun quirks thrown in for fun.
eBid has two levels of membership. Silver which is free and allows for selling in the auction and fixed price formats and Gold which is only $39.99 a year with options for weekly, monthly and quarterly subscriptions as well. Gold members can open a store for free. Basic listings are free. The only thing you pay for are your membership and listing extras like bold.

I’ve used both of the website and never had a problem with any of them (regardless whether I was a buyer or seller). There is another site that I just starting using it http://www.oltiby.com - has anyone had any good or bad experience?

The eBid site is about to undergo a total redesign, due to go live this month February 2007.
There are now 3 levels of seller membership, Silver (free with 3% fvf) aimed at the occasional seller.
Gold (a subscription based level)aimed at the hobby seller. Gold lets you have one store for free, the fvf of 2% is only charged IF you use a gallery picture.
Platinum is aimed at the professional seller, there is a one off charge (sorry I’m in the UK & don’t know the US fees). If you upgrade to Platinum from Gold, the gold subscription fees you have already paid are credited against the platinum cost. Platinum members can have an unlimited number of stores for free. The 2% fvf on gallery listings is applicable to platinum as well.
Listing enhancements are available these do have fees connected with them.
The listing figures are increasing steadily. Sales are increasing steadily too. Like all alternatives to ebay, you can’t just sit back & hope for sales you need to put some effort into promoting your goods yourself.

Following the announcement that Yahoo Auctions are closing their US & Canadian sites in June 2007.
eBid announced a special deal not only to import Yahoo feedback, but for a free upgrade to lifetime platinum membership of eBid (worth $99.99) to all Yahoo US & Canadian members.
This is a time limited offer & ends 3rd June 2007

This is great news for the ebid site, The Ebid site is no much cheaper than other sites, more visibility to other countries, ( the big one as stopped the .co.uk visibility showing by default on the US.com site causing less sales for sellers) great customer support from the owners, some great extra features that are either missing or more expensive on other sites, more user friendly than used to be due to new updates, friendly helpful posters. Less stressful to list on at the moment than it is on the big one, due to the continuous tinkering there.

Ebid is great for buyers because there’s not so much competition from other buyers, so you can get a bargain. It’s great for sellers because on a Silver Membership. it’s totally free to list.
I have been there for 4 years and love it - the community boards are friendly and no re-listing fees! Since the upgrade, my sales have also picked up.

Since last year eBid has changed from good to great.
eBid has been running for over 8 years so its not going to close as soon as you set up shop.
It free to list on ebid so why not list on eBay and eBid ..

I have been with eBid for over 2 years now, the Customer support is more personalised, you dont get premeditated emails like you do with eBay. eBid’s fee’s are excellent, Customer support is excellent too. We have a forum there where we can advertise our auctions on there for FREE or ask Members or Support questions if we have queries. Or we can just chat to eachother at The Kitchen Table. Some of the eBidders have got a charity set up all legal & above board, each month items are listed for a certain charity, eBidders do their thing and whoever wins the item, all donations are given to that charity.
I have found eBid a great place to be, none of this chatting to a machine everything has a more personal approach which is what us HUMANS require. Come join us we’re FREE. Dont pay extorntionate listing selling & other fee’s, join eBid. http://uk.ebid.net/

I’d like to see ebid thrive.Ebays reputation as a haven for frausters and having the worst customer service in history is well founded. It started with high flying good intentions but has failed to live up to them.

ebay is a dictatorship, like microsoft and wants to crush any user who they even THINK has a connection to any previously suspended account. My WHOLE FAMILY got banned from ebay one by one because one person bid Ā£5 on a stupid item then didnt log in for ages and got an unpaid item strike. The next thing we know, all of us get emails one by one saying “as you are connected to another suspended user in some way (we cannot tell you what information leads us to think this) you are suspended for 12 months. If you resolve the original suspension we will consider removing this one” - which they DONT even after the original one was resolved after many emails, they STILL banned everyone who lives at our address for 12 months for being ASSOCIATED with a banned account holder while they were banned. WTF is going on here???

I agree. Ebay chucks out users like there is an endless supply of them. Well, no business has an endless supply of customers - they have to be nice to them first. Ebay seem to think its a great honour to be allowed to sell there, their mad monopoly must be ended. Think about it, who are the people filling up ebid now? “thrown away” customers from ebay, who are migrating over in their thousands due to ebays “iron claw” management style. I think the growing “disgruntled” population will be a powerful force soon - look out ebay. Retribution IS coming to a computer near YOU.
How many times do you now see (looking at peoples feedback pages) that the other sellers are often “no longer a registered user” - guys with 1000’s of feedback banned for one mistake, a late item sent to a buyer, or didnt arrive & wasnt fixed quick enough….you must tread carefully on ebay nowadays as a seller OR a buyer. Who needs that? Business online is hard enough without having to work with such stupid rules - my last comment is this: What would it be like if the authorities could come round to your brick-&-mortar store, and throw you out and shut the doors for a year because someone complained that their CD they bought from you was slow to arrive or got lost in the post? Have we strayed into Bolivia by mistake???

Both ebay and ebid are good action sites. However, a better site with a unique platform will be launched in November. The site is called Pricefalls.com and it is based on the dutch action model. Sellers put in the most they think the can get, the least they will take,a desired price fall and a duration. The auction starts at the high price and then falls based on the dollar interval the seller enters. Then, once the price hits an amount that a buyer will accept the buyer bids and gets the item. There are no bidding wars. Better yet, there are no listing fees either. Pricefalls.com is an entertaining and profitable platform for both buyers and sellers.

I would have loved eBid to be a real competitor, but my first experience there (after several hundred on eBay) was negative…and it doesn’t appear they want to do anything about it
Personally I consider the auction sites to be up there with banks, real estate and car sales people…..
