It seems like every few months the rumor that eBay is getting bought by Microsoft comes back around. It’s a little like that fly that just won’t leave you alone.
Well, once again, that little rumor is buzzing around your pastrami and rye.
So, what would the benefit be to Microsoft buying eBay? Well, the immediate gaining of one of the largest web portals in the internet. Thee largest shopping destination. Lots and lots of eyeballs looking at lots and lots of advertisements.
Potentially, PayPal and Skype could come along. Those would certainly be a bonus to Microsoft as well. MS tried a payment system a while back and failed. With paypal, they would get an instant payment system.
With Skype they would get a instant addition to the MSN messenger that would boost it’s already popular usage.
All in all, Microsoft would be getting quite a bit for the money. Current estimates would put the deal at somewhere around $40 billion although I wouldn’t be surprised to see it reach 50-60 billion. Microsoft currently has $266 billion in market capital.
