This one slipped through my radar for a while, but eBay announced that they had purchased the micro finance company MicroPlace back towards the beginning of the month in a TownHall.
MicroPlace allows for micro finance loans. At the moment, nearly a month later, there doesn’t seem to be any real way to see what they do or how they do it. They are apparently going to roll out an eBay like auctions system for the loans so that potential lenders can “bid” on the terms of the loan in an effort to “win” the loan or part of the loan. Sounds a lot like Prosper, only with the backing of eBay and what would seem to be availability to only third world undeveloped countries.
You can check out the site at Microplace.com and listen to the townhall announcement in the townhall archives.
