eBay blocks listing for members with private feedback
3 October 2006Effective somewhere around the 26th of October, eBay members who have a private feedback profile will no longer be allowed to list items for sale. Current auctions will be allowed to finish, but relisting will not be an option as long as the feedback profile remains private.
This is a great step by eBay. I for one get a little nervous when I come upon an item whose seller has made his/her feedback private. I immediately wonder what it is that they are hiding. Perhaps nothing, but maybe something.
From the eBay announcement:
Buyers should have all the information available about their prospective sellers’ past trading histories. This helps them make knowledgeable choices about doing business with that seller. Prohibiting members with private Feedback profiles from listing items will ensure we help maintain a safe and well-lit marketplace.
Well said. Your feedback profile is meant to be a public display of past dealings with buyers and sellers alike. Hiding it only gives the appearance of having something to hide.
