One of my favorite options as a store owner is the “Best Offer” option. It gives my customers the ability to offer me a price that they think is fair and for me to potentially make a sale. Of all the offers I’ve received, only one has been so low that it was rediculous. And I accept nearly all offers.
There are a few things that I have been waiting for in the offer area. One of which is the ability to make a counter offer. If a buyer sends me a too-low offer, I want to be able to counter offer a price that I think is fair. It’s a little bit of the old haggle commerce that would be nice to have.
Well, guess what! eBay is going to add that.
- Increased Number of Offers – Buyers in all categories will be able to make up to 3 offers per item (increased from one), making it easier to negotiate a price acceptable to both parties.
- Counter-Offer – Sellers can respond directly to a Best Offer by either accepting the offer or by making a counter-offer.
- Auto Decline Feature – Sellers can set a minimum Best Offer price that they will consider. All offers below that price will be declined automatically.
Something good from eBay for once. I don’t understand the use of the first option, but the second one is exactly what I want and the third should come in really handy. I have to wonder though if the third would negate some of the usefullness of the second. If I auto decline an offer, will I still be able to make a counter offer? What would be nice there would be a autodecline/autocounter option where any auto decline I set up can also be set up with an auto counter offer.
An exciting addition from eBay.
