eBay adds “Best Match” to search results

If you’re familiar with the Best Match in other search tools, this could be something fairly exciting.  I’ll let eBay explain it in their own terms:

“Best Match” lets you sort the listings you see based on a concept called relevance. A particular listing’s relevance is based on past buyer behavior, as well as information like the listing title and description.

With Best Match, what buyers do on the site affects the order in which listings are displayed. In other words, if buyers running a particular search often end up viewing, bidding on, or buying, a certain type of item more often, this will be factored into our relevance calculations. These types of items might then display higher on the page in subsequent searches.

They also note that using this new feature won’t change the items that you see, only the order that you see them in.  The item with the most relevance to your search terms will come first.  This could become a very useful tool in many different areas of eBay that have become overwhelmed with piggyback junk.  The cellphone categories come to mind.
