Amazon restricts sellers for holidays

Posted by thatedeguy on 8th November , 2006 - no responses

Amazon announced on October 30th that they were placing restrictions on their marketplace sellers.

We want all third-party orders to be fulfilled in a timely manner so they’re delivered by December 23, and we want the holiday season to be successful for all sellers. And so, to maintain the continued confidence of buyers and sellers in the Amazon Marketplace, we are changing the listing process for our Toys and Games store. Effective immediately, only pre-approved sellers will be able to list products in this store through 2006.

They’ve appearantly already selected the approved sellers and are not approving any more.  Obviously, this has made a few people a little upset.  Especially leading up to the holiday spree that is expected to exceed several billion in sales internet wide.  For many sellers, the holiday season is the part of the year that puts their business into a profitable area.  Taking that away from toy and games sellers may drive many of them to eBay, eBid, ubid, or any of the other various auction and e-commerce sites that have sprung up recently.

Not a good business move for Amazon in my opinion.  Not a good move at all.
