Amazon announced late last month that they were planning on closing up their zshops products as of October 24th of 2006.
While a good portion of Amazon sellers have already switched over to the higher commission Marketplace product, there are still a few that are using the zshops as a way to collect miscellaneous charges and sell items that cannot be listed properly in the marketplace program. Still others have such large numbers of listings that they feel overwhelmed by the task of moving the product from the zshops to marketplace.
In the end, many of these sellers may become frustrated with Amazon and move their business over to eBay stores.
I can’t imagine that they would be much happier in an eBay store really. The fees are about half at eBay, but you get socked with ebay listing fees and final value fees along with paypal fees. The added cost could be enough to keep the sellers away from eBay also.
Since the majority of Amazon sellers are book sellers, it may be possible that we will see a new or improved site somewhere else that caters directly to book sellers and dealers.
